Job SummaryThe County of San Diego is accepting applications for the position ofMEDICAL CONSULTANT -(MD/DO)Interviews and job offers will take place beginning the week of January 27, 2025. -In addition to base salary, candidates may be compensated at an additional 10% for Board Certified Specialty and 15% for relevant Sub-Specialty.The Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) is looking for a Board-Certified Family Medicine or Internal Medicine physician for the position of Medical Consultant. Under general direction, the Medical Consultant will perform a variety of duties necessary for the identification, diagnosis, and control of communicable diseases within the population. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening. - -Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation resultsAnticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date -If you are not selected for this interview process, you may have the opportunity to compete for future vacancies.Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate will be a Physician licensed -by the California Medical Board who takes pride in being a recognized leader in medical, public health, and medical administration fields, and is comfortable consulting on clinical cases from internal and external providers as well as treating patients in clinic; thrives when working with a diverse team of professionals and staff to accomplish common goals and is a highly effective communicator; able to address sensitive public health issues with staff, customers, media, and community groups with a passion for working with under-served communities to address local and global health issues. Additionally, this candidate will have a track record of successfully reaching out and establishing relationships with community leaders and organizations and is a problem solver, team builder, strategic thinker, and are politically astute with exceptional organizational acumen. - - Well qualified candidates have completed a formal training program for a specialty, as approved by the County on Medical Education of the American Medical Association or possess a certification of eligibility for certification by an American Specialty Board. -Internal medicine, family medicine, or preventive medicine are preferred. -A valid license to practice medicine in the State of California must be maintained throughout employment in this class and is required at the time of appointment.Malpractice Insurance: -Pursuant to the provisions of California law, The County of San Diego, through its self-insurance program, provides coverage for its employees regarding malpractice and liability within the scope of employment.Required Education and ExperiencePossession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of California is required prior to appointment and must be maintained throughout employment; AND, -Possession of a Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic (D.O.) degree from an accredited medical school, an institution recognized or approved by the Medical Board of California, or an Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate; AND, -One (1) year of post-graduate experience that includes exposure to a broad range of medical diagnostic and treatment problems, including those of the desired specialty.Notes: -Some positions may require applicants to possess additional medical certifications or to be eligible for the certification examination by a specified Board as evidenced by written statement from the secretary of that Board. -Examples include: the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Family Medicine, the American Board of Preventive Medicine, the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine, or the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians.May be eligible for relocation allowance up to $8,000.The Department of Human Resources removes personally identifiable information from all recruitments.
